Our location in one of the world's most highly concentrated precincts of biomedical research is augmented by our strong links to many leading research institutes, major general and specialist hospitals and private sector knowledge-based industries in Victoria and around the world.

Our Faculty is internationally recognised for its leadership in health research, policy and practice. We are engaged in developing practical solutions to global health challenges; preparing our students for leadership roles in health care; and working with our partners and communities to advance health and well-being around the world.

We educate more health professionals, graduate more research and higher degree students, produce more peer-reviewed papers and attract more national peer-reviewed medical research funding than any other university in Australia.

Our Students have access to the latest knowledge and discoveries and to opportunities to gain excellent clinical experience. We also provide opportunities to learn about rural health at our rural campus and clinical school based in the river-land setting of Shepparton.

The Times Higher Education Supplement consistently ranks the University of Melbourne in the top 30 international universities and as the leading Australian university for bioscience and the employability of its graduates.

Our history and achievements in teaching and research have contributed to its prestige both in Australia and internationally. Our medical school was established in 1862 and is the oldest medical school in Australia. We lead biomedical research in Australia.
