Research strengthsThe faculty is renowned for the breadth and depth of its research in areas that range from medical education to biotechnology and genetics. Several areas have emerged in the last five years as particular strengths with international recognition and substantial external funding supporting them. These are the neurosciences, microbiology and immunology and cancer. Here is a sample of the faculty's areas of research strength:
Our research staffThe faculty has more than 900 academic staff and 400 general staff supporting its research programs. Many of our staff are leaders in their fields, among them Professor Colin Masters and Professor Peter Doherty. A first-rate locationThe faculty is located at the centre of one of the world's most concentrated biomedical research precincts, close to medical research institutes, hospitals, university departments and private sector knowledge-based industries. One of Australia's most sophisticated centres of medical research and biotechnological development is being developed next door to the university as part of the A$400 million biotechnology initiative, Bio21. |
