Post-doctoral opportunitiesFellowshipsFellowships provide salary support for research staff. Some are prestigious, named fellowships offered through the faculty. The majority of fellowships are awarded by major funding agencies such as the National Health and Medical Research Council and Australian Research Council. National Health and Medical Research Council and Australian Research Council fellows, newly appointed to the faculty, may be eligible for an initial grant of up to $50,000 with additional annual salary supplementation of $8000. Post-doctoral supportThe university's Melbourne Early Career Researcher Grant Scheme provides $1.5 million annually to support research by academic staff already with salaried appointments and in the early stages of a career at the University of Melbourne. Half this money is allocated to researchers in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and results in funding for around 20 projects each year. The scheme aims to provide researchers with a launching pad for the writing of external grant funding applications the following year.
