Master of Speech Pathology

What was your pathway to studying Speech Pathology at the University of Melbourne?

After completing my 'O' levels in Singapore, I enrolled in the foundation studies course at Trinity College in Melbourne. I got into the Bachelor of science course at the university of Melbourne  and upon graduation, I applied for the master's of speech pathology course.

Why did you choose to study Speech Pathology?

I've always wanted to be in a Health Sciences related course and I have also always wanted to work with kids.

What is your favourite subject?

I don’t have one particular favourite subject because they are all just so interesting!

What has the highlight of the course been so far?

I think one of the highlights has been the clinical placements. They are great fun and you learn so much. You can only know what speech pathology is all about when you do the clinical placements. I did my placement at the Royal Children’s Hospital, which I loved!

How have you found student life at the University of Melbourne?

Student life at Melbourne uni is fantastic. It is a very friendly and welcoming environment and the lecturers are very approachable. Studying at Melbourne has been a really great experience for me.

What do you plan to do upon completion of the course?

I like the environment here in Melbourne and if an opportunity presents itself, I wouldn’t mind working here. I am also considering pursuing research in the area of speech pathology as I am curious about the genetic causes of motor speech disorders.
