2010 ASM Frank Fenner Award - Dr Elizabeth Hartland

Congratulations to Dr. Elizabeth Hartland who has been awarded the 2010 Australian Society for Microbiology Frank Fenner Award.

Liz and her team study Legionella pneumophila, the bacterium responsible for Legionnaires' disease and pathogenic types of E. coli that cause diarrhoea.

This award recognizes distinguished contributions in Australian research in microbiology by scientists in the formative stages of their career.

“This award is important to me as it promotes our research profile and contribution to the discipline of microbiology in Australia, but it is also valuable recognition of Infection and Immunity research here at the University,” says Liz.

Liz will present the Fenner Lecture at the ASM Annual Scientific Meeting in Sydney 2010.

Liz is Coordinator of the Infection and Immunity domain in the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences and a laboratory head within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne.
