The university is a SafetyMAP and ISO 14001 accredited organisation, and as such requires that activities which may impact on the environment are identified, assessed, controlled and reviewed.

The University EHS unit also runs two programs to assist staff and students to maintain the university environmental management systems. These are:
The Green Laboratory Program provides audit procedures identify best practice activities, environmentally friendly products and safe work procedures which minimize negative impact onto the environment within laboratories.
This program establishes environmentally friendly recycling, waste reduction, paper usage, water consumption, photocopying and printing processes in offices.
