Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) management is the practice of reducing risk in the workplace by ensuring a safe working environment. This is achieved by having good safe work procedures, providing appropriate induction and training for staff and students, and regularly inspecting the workplace for hazards.
The faculty EHS program is developed and managed by the Faculty EHS Manager (see Contact information below) through the Faculty EHS Committee. Each department, school or centre within the faculty will have it's own local EHS committee that reports back to the Faculty EHS Committee.
Useful information on workplace, laboratory and off campus safety has been developed to assist staff, students and supervisors within the faculty to understand the requirements of a safe workplace:
The university's EHS management system is overseen by the EHS unit. The system is regularly audited in order to comply with two separate standards (SafetyMAP and AS/NZS ISO 14001).
Every faculty is also separately responsible for managing their own local activities in accordance with the safe work policies set out in the Environment, Health and Safety Manual. To achieve this, the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences has developed it's own EHS program (as outlined in this website).
